A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that a dentist places into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants are an ideal option for people in good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason.
While high-tech in nature, dental implants are actually more like a tooth saving situation rather than the traditional bridgework, since implants do not rely on any neighboring teeth for support.
Dental implants are so natural looking, you may forget you ever lost or replaced a tooth. You know that your confidence about your teeth affects how you feel about yourself. Perhaps you hide your smile because of spaces from missing teeth. Maybe your dentures don't feel secure. Perhaps you have difficulty chewing. If you are missing one or more teeth and would like to smile, speak and eat again with comfort and confidence, there is good news! Dental implants are teeth that can look and feel just like your own! Under proper conditions, such as placement by a dentist and diligent patient maintenance, implants can last a lifetime. Long-term studies continue to show improving success rates for implants.
Dentures can only deliver a small fraction of the biting force of natural teeth. With dental implants, patients can bite with forces close to that of natural teeth. Better chewing efficiency results in better digestion leading to improved health of patients
One fear, which denture wearers have, is that of their dentures coming out of their mouths when they speak. Implant supported
prostheses are retained firmly to the jaw, allowing patients to speak with confidence.
Implant supported crowns and bridges can be made to look very natural, with excellent aesthetics, which greatly enhances the patient?s smile.
Implant supported dentures can be fabricated with reduced extensions, so that patients feel less bulk in their mouths while wearing their denture. With dental implants you won?t have your dentures slipping and sliding in your mouth again and you will enjoy excellent fitted dentures.
The ideal candidate for a dental implant is in good general and oral health. Adequate bone in your jaw is needed to support the implant, and the best candidates have healthy gum tissues that are free of periodontal disease. Dental Implants are indicated as a treatment option for:
Your Pathway Through The Centre
If you decide to have treatment at The Implant Centre we would like to help show you what to expect at each stage of treatment.
The following pages will guide you not every case need it and indeed some cases may be more complex. You will be contacted by e mail once we have received your referral to arrange a convenient date and time for you to attend for an assessment.
Before you attend for your first visit we will send you a confirmation e mail or ph call with your appointment date and time and detailed directions.
Your Initial Assessment
This appointment involves very careful assessment of your individual case. It usually takes one hour and involves meeting the doctor at the centre following by detailed discussion of your medical and dental history and your aims for treatment.
We will then under take a very careful and detailed examination of your mouth, including an oral health and cancer screen.
You will have initial x-rays as required so we can then begin the process of assessing the bone volume available. At this stage we can often advise you on your suitability for implants and begin the detailed discussion of treatment available to you, how implants work and the stages involved.
More complex cases sometimes require more time and even for you to be seen by more than one dentist expert. We may need to make some models of your teeth and to consider further investigations such as detailed 3D imaging prior to making any decisions. All the costs involved with this will be explained to you.
Once planning is complete you will be sent a comprehensive treatment plan with all the cost .
Your Implant Surgery - Stage One
This is the appointment everybody is frightened about, but is rarely as bad as you imagine! The actual surgery time is only about fifteen minutes although you will be booked in for an hour to allow for further discussion and planning to put you at ease.
The implant surgery is carried out extremely carefully and precisely, and while it is a surgical procedure most people say it is far less traumatic than having a root treatment or tooth extraction. We carry out the surgery as quickly, but as safely as possible. This expertise allows for remarkably little discomfort following treatment.
Simple painkillers (Paracetamol, Ibuprofen) are all that is required following implant placement for most cases. The surgery does involve some drilling but it is not the whining drill or the vibrating slow drill many people associate with dentistry. It is carried out extremely carefully and we will discuss this with you as treatment progresses.
At the end of the procedure you may have some stitches which dissolve on their own. If they are causing you annoyance or discomfort we will obviously remove them for you.
If the gap where the implant is placed is visible we will then place and adjust a temporary tooth for you. You need never have a gap at any stage of treatment if you do not wish.
You will be given a detailed instruction sheet at the end of your appointment on how to maintain and clean your mouth following surgery. We will also discuss any pain relief or any antibiotics that may be required at this stage.
Your Implant Surgery ? Stage Two
Once the implants are placed, they will need to be left for at least eight/twelve weeks to allow your bone to completely fuse with the implant. After this, the implants can be uncovered and a healing cap is attached. This procedure is very quick and normally straight forward, occasionally needing just a little local anaesthetic to make you numb.
Sometimes, healing caps can be placed at the same time as your implant, thus making your whole implant experience even easier. Despite an exceptionally high success rate (96%), in some cases when we uncover the implant we will find that the bone hasn't fused and will have to replace it. In most cases replacement will be simple, successful and free of charge.
Making your Crowns or Bridges on the Implants - Stage Three
The rest of implant dentistry is much like all dentistry you would have experienced in the past. You will be seen over two to three appointments to have impressions taken of your teeth and the positions of the implants.
These appointments are spread out over a few weeks to allow for your gums to heal, and to allow our laboratory time to precisely make your new crowns.
We take extreme care in all of these phases to make sure everything is as accurate as possible. We also have specialist machines to digitally photograph and take shades of your adjacent teeth so that these crowns can be matched perfectly.
Once the crowns are fitted we will review you a few weeks later to make sure that the final outcome is what you had expected and that everything is healing well.
Follow up and Maintenance
It is absolutely vital that implants are maintained very carefully by yourself and followed up by specialists. At the end of your treatment it is important that you attend regular reviews at The Implant Centre.
This is because there are cases where the bone can deteriorate around implants over a longer term we therefore need to see you on annual basis to take x-rays, check the tooth and implant, take photographs, and clean as necessary. All of this treatment is carried out with very minor chareges.
Do you offer free assessments?
No. This is the most critical part of the treatment process and from where most mistakes can be traced. Our assessments consist of 1 hour with a dentist, all the required x-rays, detailed planning, models and surgical guides, together with a written treatment plan, all included in one time consultation fee. For more information about treatment costs click here.(please put link of cost here )
Aren?t implants expensive?
Yes. It is a lot to spend on your mouth and it is down to each individual patient to decide if the improvements to quality of life, function and aesthetics are worthwhile. We only ever prescribe treatment that is necessary. If searching for a bargain please keep in mind that we continue to repair many cases from other implant clinics that have gone wrong due to inadequate skills or materials.
Do Implants Ever Go Wrong?
Any surgical procedure can go wrong. In the unlikely event that an implant fails, we offer the choice of a full refund, or to replace the implant completely free of charge. We have usually found that patients wish to try again and that a second failure is exceptionally rare - not a single one since implant placement started(2002).
How many implants do you place at city dental hospital?
In 2008 we placed 200 implants, in 2009 we placed over 300 ? we now believe that The Implant Centre is the largest centre, in terms of numbers of dental implants placed, of its kind in the saurashtra kutch and in the India. This is exceptionally reassuring for both our patients and our referring dentists.

Our surgeon went through all Dental Implantology and lernt up-and-coming implant dentists both simple and advanced implant techniques.
What implants do you use?
We choose the best system for each individual case. The three main implant systems that we use are 1. OSSTEM
All the system used in CE certified, FDA approved implant system.
There are cheaper systems available but they do not have the research, quality, backup and reliability that we require. We are also aware of clinics in the India using copy implants. Just like any other fake goods they rarely live up to expectations and we will NEVER risk our patient?s care, security and the longevity of their results with fake implant components. Always look for reviews and testimonials from real patients to establish the true quality of a dental implant centre at City Dental Hospital Rajkot.

As you know, your own teeth require conscientious at-home oral care and regular dental visits. Dental implants are like your own teeth and will require the same care. In order to keep your implant clean and plaque-free, brushing and flossing still apply!
After treatment, periodic follow-up visits will be scheduled to monitor your implant, teeth and gums to make sure they are healthy.
Guidelines For Care of Your Mouth After Dental Implant Treatment Take care to only have cold drinks and do not eat until the local anaesthetic has worn off. Avoid hot drinks or hot food for the first day . Try not to disturb the area with your tongue or fingers. Do not undertake strenuous exercise for the first 48 hours (running / gym).
Some swelling is normal and will start to resolve after 48 hours. There may be bruising on the skin which will clear after a few days. Swelling can be reduced with ice packs wrapped in a towel. Hold on the cheek area for a maximum of 10 minutes at a time with 20 minutes break. After 24 hours gentle heat is more beneficial. Sleeping on 2-3 pillows may also help.
Pain should not be a problem. Although you will be sore for a few days this can be easily managed with simple analgesics (pain killers) which you should take regularly for 5 days at the stated dose. Take your first dose before the local anaesthetic has worn off. If pain increases after 48 hours you should contact us.
If you have a denture that covers the surgical area please wear as little as possible for the first 4 weeks to protect the implants or graft. Do not bite into any food with this denture. The stitches are dissolvable but often remain for around 3 weeks, if they are uncomfortable or annoying you may contact us to remove them after 1 week.sometimes we use nonresorbable which is removed after 7 days.
Some bleeding is normal. If this persists apply pressure with a dampened gauze .
If you have had a graft you may notice some small granules appearing in your mouth.
If you have been given antibiotics please complete the course.
If you experience increasing pain or swelling after 3-4 days you should contact us for a review.
Cleaning - Successful implant surgery depends on keeping the mouth as clean as possible.
Please start to use Hexidine mouthwash the evening of surgery and continue for 1 week. You should hold half a cap-full over the surgical site for 1 minute 3 times a day for 7 days. This is very important.
You should also start cleaning your other teeth on the evening of surgery. Avoid the surgical site for the first 2 days, but then very carefully clean this area as well when tenderness permits.
Hot salt mouthwashes (cup of hot water with a teaspoon of salt) are beneficial for healing in the first week .
Try to keep food away from the surgical area as long as possible. Rinse following eating to keep the area as clean as possible.
You are advised not to smoke until the wound has healed as this severely limits healing in the mouth.
We want your recovery to be as smooth and pleasant as possible. It is vital to follow these instructions very carefully - if you have any concerns or questions regarding your progress please do not hesitate to contact us on following mobile no 09428223282.
